Las Cruces City Council District 4 candidate Ryan Matthew Dailey was arrested Sunday on drunken driving charges, the Las Cruces Sun-News is reporting.

Dailey, 23, is charged with aggravated drunken driving, improper lane usage and lack of due care, the newspaper reported. He remained jailed on Tuesday, according to the Sun-News.

Dailey, a U.S. Navy veteran and lifelong Las Cruces resident, announced in August that he was running for the seat currently held by Nathan Small. He said public safety would be his top priority and pledged to fight for more money for first responders and a new 911 dispatch center.

Aaron Henry Diaz has also entered the District 4 race. The election is Nov. 8.
