Democratic gubernatorial candidate Diane Denish says if a ‘racist’ e-mail was sent among employees of her office like the one forwarded by an employee of Republican opponent Susana Martinez’s office, those employees would lose their jobs.

UPDATED: In response to this posting, the state Democratic Party chairman says “any state employee” who sent or forwarded an e-mail joke about killing a Mexican and an Arab should “no longer work for the state.” The chairman originally only called for the firing of a prosecutor who works for GOP gubernatorial candidate Susana Martinez.

Appellate judge candidate Dennis W. Montoya wants people to know he doesn’t share the views of a N.M. Public Regulation Commission candidate who, in response to an e-mail Montoya sent out Wednesday, called the residents of Eldorado “bigoted Anglos.”

Public Regulation Commission candidate Andrew Leo Lopez claims residents of Eldorado, a community near Santa Fe, are “bigoted Anglos.” The facts prove him wrong. I hope by pointing out those facts I can combat his attempt to drive a wedge between people.

The state GOP is reaching out to Hispanics

Next summer I will be retiring from the military and I would like to get more involved in the political scene back home. So I am in the process of doing research to see for myself if a Hispanic from the poor north-side barrio of Artesia can find a home in New Mexico’s Grande ‘Ole Party.

We have to talk about race if we want a more equitable economy

Institutional racism leads to disproportionate poverty among people of color, and to combat that, we have to talk about it first. To have that conversation isn’t racist. It doesn’t make you a communist or a Nazi, or un-American. Nor does wanting to find a solution.
