Marjorie Childress has lived in Albuquerque since 2001, where she went back to school for a graduate degree in community and regional planning. She writes about politics for the New Mexico Independent, an online newsjournal, and for m-pyre, a local blog founded in 2004.

She is also on staff at the SouthWest Organizing Project, where she began volunteering as soon as she could on arriving in New Mexico. While people often try to peg her politics one way or the other, she likes to think she strikes her own path through the minefields of policy and politics. Any views she expresses in this column are solely hers, reflecting her personal take on politics, place and power.
