A left-leaning group has accused Republican U.S. Senate candidate Heather Wilson of lobbying for an aeronautical company in Washington; Wilson says the allegation is false.

The left-leaning group ProgressNow New Mexico recently accused Republican U.S. Senate candidate Heather Wilson of serving as a lobbyist in Washington, D.C. after she left the U.S. House in 2008.

On its Wilson Watch website, the group has a section aimed at highlighting Wilson’s Washington ties. It states she was a lobbyist and, until Monday, linked to these documents showing that someone named Heather Wilson was a registered lobbyist for North Eastern Aeronautical in 2009 and 2010.

Wilson’s campaign spokesman, Christopher Sanchez, said it’s not the same Heather Wilson.

“Heather Wilson does not now, nor has she ever, had any employment, contract or affiliation of any kind with North Eastern Aeronautical,” Sanchez said.

ProgressNow’s Pat Davis took the lobbying documents off the Wilson Watch website on Monday after being contacted by NMPolitics.net for comment, and said the organization will double check Wilson’s claim.

“If this is not the same Heather Wilson, I am happy to post the correction,” he said.

ProgressNow, whose website states that it is a “non-profit, non-partisan, grassroots organization,” has been quite active this election cycle in New Mexico. Among its work was the outing of a man who illegally registered his dog to vote as the husband of a staffer on Wilson’s campaign.

I wonder when Wilson will say the Karl Rove PAC ad saying she is an “independent” is also false.  Or is she still sitting on it’s Board of Directors?

Some good points Mr. Goodenow, there needs to be debate on policy options and opinions, since these are not math and science there is no good, bad, right, and wrong, just different approaches to problems.  The American public should decide on who’s approaches to policy, left vs. right, that they agree with and feel comfortable supporting.  That is certainly fair, but the base of each side do not want that, they want cheap, petty, personal attacks with innuendo and half-truths to emotionally engage the electorate so they don’t think at all.  And BTW, Udall didn’t need to run a campaign with other than flowery words about himself, just as Heinrich didn’t against Balderas (assisted by the fact Balderras had no intention of winning anything but name recognition), since he was so far ahead there was no reason to establish distinctions with your opponent.  A close election will never allow a positive campaign in America.

According to Manta Heather Wilson’s consulting firm made $300,000 per year. What does it consult about?

Too bad.  The allies of Heinrich are going to squander Americans’ attention and pollute the airwaves with toxic messages.

My party is bungling this election.  Obama and the Democrats have to show us how they will deal with the structural problems in the economy.  The focus should be on jobs, wages, education and training, infrastructure, business and economic development policies, and long-term structural economic challenges.  And secondarily on things like preexisting conditions in health care, health care generally, Medicare, and Social Security.  National security is the third issue, it appears, from terrorism to Iran.

In all three areas, Democrats make sense and Republicans are advancing really bad policies.  So my party should be able to win with positive messages and the agenda we’ve already got.  Instead, all this petty negativity that is squandering the public’s attention and making human relationships more and more toxic — with Wisconsin the worst example of the breakdown of civic discourse.

Schneider, you’re right.  The New Mexico media doesn’t analyze much of anything these days, least of all public policy.   Local news is just 10 minutes of crime stories each night.  So TV is hopeless.  Joe Monahan and Heath here do some political analysis, but no policy analysis.  Actually, I was relying on things Heath and Joe Monahan wrote about the NM District 1 race and its concluding days.  It’s also true that Michelle had the most money in the final 3 or 4 weeks, so maybe that was the key.  But Eric’s ad against her was way over the top, as anyone could see, and Michelle was positive personally the final week or two while Eric was not.

I can only hope the Heinrich campaign itself will go positive.  Tom Udall won with a 100% positive campaign in 2008.  It can be done.

Defenders of Wildlife just put out a nasty attack ad on Ms. Wilson, the prediction has come true about how they operate this election Mr. Goodenow.

new_direction_201018:03 June 12, 2012

Wow…Heinrich and his Dem handlers must be pretty scared of Heather to so foolishly jump the gun in such spectacular fasion…the Heinrich camp must’ve received some disturbing internal polling that showed Heather in a favorable spot….in the final analysis, Progress NM comes across as rank amateurs, period.

Michael H Schneider17:34 June 12, 2012

Do you have any actual evidence for the truth of this claim?

Eric Griego just lost cuz he ran an over-the-top negative ad against Michelle Lujan-Grisham.

I’m really curious whether there’s any polling data or focus groups or surveys or anything else to explain the result of this election. Without data, we’re just relying on our prejudices.

Dr. J16:23 June 12, 2012

Well said Mr. Goodenow, but if I were a betting man I would bet the enviros and the unions will do nothing but attack ads, that is all they know, pathetic.

Mike Goodenow15:59 June 12, 2012

How idiotic.

And who would have cared had she engaged in legislative advocacy for a Defense contractor?

Which brings up a larger point.

Environmental groups are going to spend $1 million this summer in this race.

Let us hope they have the good sense to run $1 million worth of positive ads about Martin Heinrich.

Eric Griego just lost cuz he ran an over-the-top negative ad against Michelle Lujan-Grisham.

There is a huge debate raging now about whether the Democratic Party is going to promote a positive agenda this election or not.  I stand with Bill Clinton, Governor Ed Rendell, Gov. Deval Patrick, Sen. Diane Feinstein, and Mayor Cory Booker.  Democrats need to put a real vision out there for America’s future.   American elections are about the future of our country.  They are not about all this petty nonesense like the utter falsehood that Progressive Now NM just came up with, even had it been true.

I can easily think up $1 million worth of positive things to say about Martin Heinrich on our state’s airwaves.  Let’s hope the environmental groups can.

Thank you for outing this group Heath.  They say they are a “non-profit, non-partisan, grassroots organization,”    Please, they could at least be honest and tell the truth, this is fooling no one.
