Former Gov. Bill Richardson and his wife have purchased a home in the Cape Cod area in Massachusetts for $1.67 million.

From the Cape Cod Times:

“Former New Mexico Gov. William ‘Bill’ Richardson and his wife, Barbara Flavin Richardson, paid $1.67 million for a house on Fox Pond and Strong Island Road, according to the deed recorded on Sept. 15.

“The couple secured a $675,000 mortgage from the Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank and purchased the 2,278-square-foot house from Gerald and Stephanie Coughlan of Wellesley. The Coughlans paid $1.6 million for the property on Nickerson Neck in 2004.

“Most of the property’s value — $1.5 million — is in the 36,200-square-foot pond-front lot, according to Chatham assessing records. The assessed value of the three-bedroom house with 4.5 bathrooms was $297,900.

“‘Gov. and Mrs. Richardson will use this home as a vacation home,’ Richardson spokesman Caitlin Wakefield emailed Friday. ‘Their primary residence will continue to be Santa Fe, N.M. Mrs. Richardson has longstanding ties in the Cape Cod area.”

Barbara Richardson grew up in Massachusetts, and met Bill Richardson when he attended high school there after moving from Mexico.

  1. Darn 1%er…I won’t miss Bill…

  2. Gee…and all this time I thought Richardson was just one of us little people struggling to make ends meet.  So much for the myth of him being a native New Mexican.  PT Barnum once said there’s a sucker born every minute.  It’s one of those fundamental truths about people carpetbaggers are so adept at exploiting.

  3. Just a matter of time GFA, unless Bill is a top dog around here, it is too boring and primitive for his tastes and ego.  No one will miss him when he leaves for good.

  4. NM should respect and treat Richardson better.  He is still a great asset to the state.  I hate the way this state cannibalizes and burns bridges with it’s politicians.  It only serves to dis-enfranchise and impoverish us in the larger scene of things.

  5. Too bad Mr. Richardson doesn’t make this Mass. home his primary residence instead of Santa Fe.

  6. Oh joyous Christmas present, Bill leaving our state finally, back to his true cultural “roots” in the NE.  Don’t let the door hit you on the way out Bill.
