Dailey defends decision to stay in Cruces council race
Ryan Dailey says he “will not back down” from his bid to become the District 4 city councilor in Las Cruces despite being arrested recently for drunken driving.
Dailey wrote in an e-mail to NMPolitics.net that the charges are misdemeanors and said he’s innocent until proven guilty.
“If I’m guilty I’ll pay my dues, but I will be an am innocent until proven guilty,” he wrote in the e-mail.
Dailey was arrested for DWI earlier this month in Las Cruces, but has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He’s also facing a separate DWI case in Virginia stemming from an incident in 2009.
In the Las Cruces case he’s charged with aggravated drunken driving, improper lane usage and lack of due care. In Virginia, he faces one count of driving under the influence and one count for carrying a 10-inch knife hidden in his vehicle. All charges are misdemeanors.
Dailey faces incumbent Nathan Small and another challenger, Aaron Henry Diaz, in the Nov. 8 election.

It should interest District 4 voters that ironically his major issue is public safety.
