Griego considering CD1 run – if Heinrich runs for Senate

Eric Griego

State Sen. Eric Griego, D-Albuquerque, says he will seriously consider running for the 1st Congressional District seat in Congress next year – if the current U.S. representative, Democrat Martin Heinrich, opts to give up the seat to run for U.S. Senate.

“If he jumps, I’m definitely seriously considering it,” Griego told NMPolitics.net.

Griego said there’s no timeline for a decision – his is dependent on what Heinrich decides – and he won’t run if Heinrich opts to stay in the House.

Heinrich says he’s actively considering running for the Senate seat begin vacated by Democrat Jeff Bingaman.

  1. God willing the dems nominate this extreme liberal. Thje rep’s Dan Lewis will eat his lunch.

  2. He’s the Executive Director of New Mexico Voices for Children, an anti-poverty non-profit. As for “what he has done”, he’s got a fairly successful rate of passed legislation, at least for someone so comparatively far to the left; specifically, he has been second only to former Representative Arnold-Jones in pushing webcasting (let’s hear it for ironic timing…) and has introduced numerous (doomed) bills to establish ethics boards and expand transparency laws.

And you are correct; Griego is easy to beat in the district… which is why even your average college student could place higher than him in a primary. As much as you might enjoy that particular fantasy, I don’t think you’re going to have much luck. Hopefully, Congressman Heinrich has the sense to stay where he is.

As for why Griego lost the mayoral ’06 race? Well, it’s hard to win a mayoral race when you’re about as eloquent as Warren G. Harding. He only plays well in a very limited demographic, but luckily for him, he lives right in the middle of that demo.

  3. Wow talk about a bloated self worth? This guy couldn’t even place in a Mayors race? He did beat a guy who stole money from a football booster club therefore he should run for Congress! As a Republican I hope he runs and wins the primary, Jon Barella will win that race with out spending a single penny.

What has this guy done since he has been a State Senator? Does anyone know what he does for a living??????
