The race between Democrat Harry Teague and Republican Steve Pearce in the 2nd Congressional District remains a virtual tie, according to a new Albuquerque Journal poll.

Pearce led Teague by 1 point, 45 percent to 44 percent, which was well within the poll’s margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.

Pearce has gained some ground on Teague in recent weeks, but Journal pollster Brian Sanderoff noted that Teague is hanging on in a tough national political climate for him, so Teague “obviously has some personal rapport with voters.”

The poll was conducted from Sept. 27-30 and surveyed 402 likely voters.
