Weh starts political action committee

Allen Weh

Former Republican gubernatorial candidate Allen Weh has started a political action committee aimed at “building citizen awareness and support for the principles the American republic is based on.”

Those principles, according to the PAC’s Web site, are “limited government, free enterprise and a strong national defense necessary to protect our nation.”

Weh made the announcement about his PAC, called “For Country,” today in an e-mail.

“I’m very pleased to tell you that I’m reaffirming my commitment to provide leadership wherever I can make a difference in putting this state and nation back on the right track,” Weh wrote. “…In these extremely challenging times, we all need to step up to the plate to make our voices heard. Being responsibly involved is right for New Mexico and right for America! That is why I’m going to do what I can to provide leadership wherever, and whenever, I can make a difference.”

The PAC’s Web site states that it will “support and assist elected officials and candidates for public office that share a similar vision for our nation.” Whether one of those candidates will be Susana Martinez, who defeated Weh in a nasty and bitter GOP primary, remains to be seen. Weh has not pledged his support for Martinez in the governor’s race.
