Domenici, Wilson among hosts of Martinez’s D.C. fundraiser
Former U.S. Sen. Pete Domenici and Rep. Heather Wilson are among those hosting a fundraiser for Republican gubernatorial candidate Susana Martinez next month in Washington, D.C.
The Sept. 14 fundraiser’s primary host is Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, according to the event invitation. The D.C. fundraiser is another sign of the high level of interest in Martinez’s candidacy in national GOP circles.
The fundraiser is also noteworthy because Domenici’s son is among the candidates Martinez defeated in the GOP primary, and Pete Domenici Jr. hasn’t come out with a public endorsement of Martinez’s candidacy against Democrat Diane Denish.
Tickets to the event cost $1,000. A contribution of $5,000 will give someone the designation of event host, and a contribution of $10,000 will give someone a designation of event chair and member of the governor’s circle. The invitation touts the fact that “unlimited corporate & individual donations” are currently accepted under New Mexico law.
Campaign contribution limits take effect after the current election cycle ends.

So Denish never has taken money from big oil? Hah, I seriously doubt that. Look at her finance reports. I’m sure a good portion did come from oil and gas. She’s from Hobbs!
After Domenici and Wilson’s unethical actions in the politically-motivated firings of a U.S. attorney should make them a negative campaign point for anyone. With Martinez claiming to be ethical, she shouldn’t put some of the worst (ethically speaking) Republicans up as an example of her supporters.
Wonder if Jack Abramoff will join Heather for the fundraiser?
Interesting Ms. Susana Martinez has pledged more transparency. However her July 29th fundraiser in Albuquerque was closed to the press. Will this fundraiser be open to the press? Probably not! This candidate sounds more and more like a Republican Richardson.
Her biggest campaign contributors are from the oil and gas industry. Despite the disastrous BP oil spill Martinez is promising to eliminate regulations on the industry. Ms. Martinez please explain – how is this different from what you call the “corrupt” Richardson habit of awarding state contracts to campaign donors. As my Grandfather use to say about politicians: “I’m getting tired of the same ol’ same ol’.”
