It truly is amazing how the Obama/Pelosi/Reid ruling triumvirate has taken on so many initiatives and created so much commotion, smoke, and dust and yet accomplished so little on the top priorities of Americans. Recent polls show the top three priorities of registered voters are: jobs and economic growth (33%), the oil spill (22%), and the deficit and government spending (15%). So far the holy trinity has done a terrible job of dealing with those top voter priorities. And many of the ObamaBrainTrust still call for more stimulus government job creation and spending (Krugman) as the only way to help the economy. Again, the last thing we need is big government believers and promoters running our economic machines. They still fail to understand that creating government jobs does not create economic growth or societal wealth. Pelosi even said unemployment checks are good for the economy, is that her only solution? It seems so. So far the triumvirate has not been able to even understand how an economy grows and what causes that, they continue to deny the role government must play in creating the environment for economic growth.

But, on the positive side, there was a very significant and encouraging event that happened late last week in the Senate. Jeff Bingaman's Energy and Natural Resources Committee, on a bipartisan proposal and vote (15-8), has acted to create a truly bipartisan and technically competent commission to investigate the oil spill. This commission will compete with the biased and technically uneducated commission Obama appointed recently. But, the very surprising thing is that the chair, Sen. Bingaman (many times credited with bipartisanship), strongly objected to this and voted against it!

It seems I was not the only person shocked and disgusted by Obama's brazen attempt to have a kangaroo commission deliver a pre-determined conclusion, without scientific and engineering expertise, to advance his political agenda. He and Salazar attempting to use the oil spill to advance partisan agendas is just beyond the pale. Luckily, the Senate (of all places) chose to intervene and take responsibility and use bipartisanship. This is a very hopeful sign for the Senate.
