Heinrich’s poll shows him way ahead of Barela

U.S. Rep. Martin Heinrich

A poll commissioned by the campaign of U.S. Rep. Martin Heinrich, D-N.M., shows him having a 17-point lead over his Republican challenger, Jon Barela.

The poll has Heinrich up 55-38 percent with 7 percent undecided, according to the polling memo. The poll was conducted April 28 to May 2 and surveyed 500 likely general election voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.

The poll, which was conducted by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research, asked this question:

“If the election for U.S. Congress were held today and the candidates were Democrat Martin Heinrich and Republican Jon Barela, for whom would you vote, Democrat Martin Heinrich or Republican Jon Barela?”

Notably, the poll did not include Green Party candidate Alan Woodruff.

Also noteworthy: Heinrich led among Anglos 48-44 percent and among Hispanics 68-24 percent, the polling memo states.

“Heading into a general election campaign against Republican Jon Barela, Martin Heinrich is in a strong position for victory,” the memo states. “Heinrich’s support is especially broad; he leads Barela among both men and women, younger and older voters, and in neighborhoods across the district.”

  1. Heinrich has been kissing up to BO the whole time he has been in office. He has lots of out-of -state money behind him. He does not represent the moderate flavor of his voters. The race will get very close soon. Those who want to get rid of this flake, put your money where your mouth is.

  2. I would like to see more information about this poll. That memo has very little information about how the poll was actually conducted. I’m very surprised to see any congressman leading by this much right now.
