Interesting ad. It says she prosecutes but nothing about getting convictions.
Border “security” will always be a poor stop gap measure. As long as NAFTA style economic conditions create economic refugees, we will continue to be overwhelmed by immigrants. As long as the insane war on drugs continues to make money for criminals and war profiteers, drug related gangster activity will only get worse.
Susana Martinez has a vested interest in perpetuating the exploding prison industrial complex , anti-drug law enforcement and the over burdening of our criminal justice system. Too many government paychecks are on the line for people making money off human misery.
So called border “security” will only grow into a parasitic government organization with a serious conflict of interest which inspires creating more chaos at the border in order to justify more and more funding for itself.
Nice ad. I think it makes a strong case for her to keep fighting crime as the Dona Ana DA. I think she would be wise to restrict this ad to play during nascar, monster truck, and wwf shows. We all know of NM’s strong hispanic heritage. She’s not gonna win a general election in a blue state like ours with that kind of rhetoric.
The difference between Susana Martinez and the other candidates is that she has actual experience dealing with many of the most important issues of the day, whether it be securing our borders, taking on corruption, or more broadly just having the guts to shake things up. Anyone familiar with Dona Ana County politics knows that to be true and this commercial provides a very clear example on an important issue about how her background prepares her for the job.
All of this prosecutor-bashing makes me wonder how Chris Christie and Bob McDonnell ever won their elections in New Jersey and Virginia….they were both prosecutors with skills “utterly irrelevant for the job of governor.” A funny thing happened on their way to defeat….
Actually, she made a pledge in this spot. Go back and watch it again.
You’ll notice in the portion where she’s speaking of drivers licenses for illegal immigrants that she says she will fight to repeal that law. As you may know, New Mexico allows illegals to have the same driving privileges as a naturalized citizen – this is wrong.
Martinez would have the ability to have legislation carried by a legislator to have this provision of law repealed. She’s demonstrating through this spot that she understands the issues on the border and that she’ll help clean up this problem in the state. But obviously you’re smarter than everyone else here, politicalguy, so I don’t really need to explain that to you.
The skills she’s advertising are utterly irrelevant to the job of governor. Perhaps to the job of DA or Attorney General, but that’s not what she’s running for.
I beg to differ politicalguy…remember, we’re still in the primary election and border security and driver’s licenses to illegals is a red meat issue to conservative voters on June 1. There will be plenty of time to showcase her resume, political acumen and executive/managerial skills in the general.
Excellent ad, campaign team! Keep ‘em coming!
Another beautifully produced ad that misses the mark, focusing on her prosecutorial experience. Sadly (for her) the governor doesn’t prosecute crimes. At least this ad takes her out of the courtroom. But the narration is better suited to an ad for her re-election as Dona Ana County DA.
