VIDEO: Reporter digs into real story of guv’s exempts

Bill Richardson

Gov. Bill Richardson giving cushy jobs for political reasons? Claiming to cut jobs when he’s really just moving people around so it looks like he’s being fiscally responsible?  Say it ain’t so, guv.

Actually, the governor didn’t say anything in response to Tuesday’s report from KRQE-TV investigative reporter Larry Barker. The seven-minute report gives us some specifics about ways in which the governor has been saying one thing to the public but doing the opposite, particularly as it relates to the shifty situation involving exempt employees.

Here’s the full report:

  1. The guv could care less about larry barker and his findings, this guy walked away clean from a department of justice investigation so believe me when I say he don’t care. He has so many jobs lined up for him when he is done it ain’t even funny. He can do what he wants in regards to these positions, so get over it and move on.

  2. Dr. J:

You make a great point. Do we want to remain 47 out of 50? Do people care? No, most New Mexicans do not care and until they do, nothing will change. I think that change must start by us talking to our neighbors and co-workers. I am a second year law student and I love my State. I truly believe NM to be the most beautiful, unique, friendliest and culturally rich State in America and as such I want to see it grow and prosper. I have entertained the idea of attempting to enter the political field after a few years of legal practice, but I am asking myself whether I would be able to affect any type of significant change or whether I would be wasting my time and effort. I still have time to think about it, but the old adage “you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink” keeps coming to mind.

On a side note, staying at the bottom of the barrel does slow down immigration from other states which in my opinion is a plus. Always look on the bright side I guess.

  3. The Guv’s other activities are also in question, like the many boards he stacks. Here is a good example of this cronyism and partisan political activities that no one seems to care about in third-world NM.

  4. >All of which begs a question; what are we going to do about it?<

Revoke the Guv exemption option and make hires go through the state merit system.

  5. There is a cap now on donations, but it doesn’t take effect till after the 2010 elections, so much time for graft and corruption to continue.

  6. Denish is going to get stuck with the task of eliminating those positions, no big donations from powerful families for her. ONE thing that would help is if the legislature would cap donations to political campaigns!

  7. This is just old fashioned La Politica patronage, payoffs, and cronyism. It has been around NM for centuries, and will not change until people elect competent, honest, and frugal public servants , not professional politicians, who care about the citizens, not themselves. Chicago, NYC, and numeorus other corrupt political systems are similar. But indeed, what are you going to do about it NM? Want to remain 47 to 50 out of 50 states in most categories for another century? When will people recognize what politics and government in NM is really all about? Where is the AG? Where are the people? Where is the outrage? See the problem?

  8. All of which begs a question; what are we going to do about it?
