Teague focused on representing, not campaigning
U.S. Rep. Harry Teague, D-N.M., had little to say today about his looming election battle against former Republican U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce, saying he’s more focused on doing his job.
“I’ve been working on being a congressman, not campaigning,” Teague said in an interview at the Roundhouse in Santa Fe.
He said he’s been working hard for his constituents, traveling the 2nd Congressional District in Southern New Mexico that he represents and holding almost 100 public forums and meetings.
“As a congressman, you’re supposed to represent the people, and the way you do that is to talk to them and listen,” he said.
Teague was in Santa Fe to announce that he’s introduced federal legislation designed to encourage additional states to collect DNA from people arrested for felony crimes so it can be checked against DNA gathered from unsolved crimes.
Teague did say when he starts actively campaigning for re-election he’ll have to focus outside the population centers in the district – Las Cruces and Roswell – but also said Las Cruces is very important to the race because it has nearly a third of the district’s voters.
He said “hard” campaigning will begin in March or April.
“But the first thing we’re going to do is represent the people,” Teague said.

You need to read my two latest posts on my blog Hemingway. They will give you the minuses of having the Organ and Potrillo Mountains as a Wilderness Area. http://www.doylepruitt.com
A lot of misinformation has been spread about the greater good of these areas being in the Citizen’s Wilderness and National Conservation Area Proposal. You are asking for a can of worms to be opened if these two areas are included as Wilderness designation. They also don’t conform to the guidelines set down for a Wilderness Area. Be careful what you ask for. You will have to live with the problems it causes.
Amen, sugar. Amen.
I may not get everything I want from Harry Teague but I will be sure to get everything I don’t want from Steve Pearce.
Busy representing us and not campaigning? Uh, huh. That’s why he voted for pay-go–to hide from his constituents that he was voting to increase the debt ceiling, while still doing it. he should be ashamed of himself.
I guess Congressman Teague is misrepresenting us. One of the main reasons I voted for Harry Teague for Congress is the simple fact that he unequivocally supported the Citizens’ Wilderness and National Conservation Area Proposal for the Organ Mountains including Sierra de Las Uvas, Broad Canyon, Robledos and Greater Potrillo Mountain Areas. In fact he sent two letters to me stridently stating that we need their preservation for future generations. Now he is waffling on this important issue. I guess I should realize the adage – “Never trust a politician.” I am so DISAPPOINTED.
