Jim is an honest, hardworking and dedicated Christian family man. I have been a member of his church for the past five years and have witnessed first-hand his faith in action.

Yes, but is he a good Christian man?

Another witch hunt! How many Dona Ana county officials have been slapped with serious offenses over the years? I can count several!

Though Jim Schoonover’s tenure as Dona Ana County Treasurer was choppy the end result was overwhelmingly positive.

Firstly, the investment performance was critical. Before Schoonover, all deposit and investment accounts were collateralized at only 50%, don’t forget FDIC insurance only covered up to $100,000 now $250,000, far less than the tens of millions in the accounts. Schoonover moved our tax dollars to accounts and banks that would collateralize at 102% ensuring all the money is safe. This movement of money decreased the profits of some bankers, leading to the attacks that followed.

The pencils, a comical continuation of the political attacks started over investments. Look at our other politicians that pass out pencils and pens at their offices and community events. Susana Martinez, district attorney, has personally handed me several of her Susana Martinez pens at various events. Therefore it is clearly just a political attack and not a legal issue.

I would be happy to see a good business man in charge of our state tax dollars instead of the corrupt politicians we have had to put up with recently.

Is this the same guy who was accused of purchasing 2,300 pencils with $700 in public money that were similar to his campaign materials for running for Dona Ana County Treasurer? Now he is running for a state office. I guess he will need for pencils.

Also wasn't he accused of violating numerous state statutes and county ordinances following months of investigation by the county's internal auditor, audit advisory committee and an independent law firm?

Just asking!
