EQMUNOZ:

i am pro-susana martinez, because i'm pro-Republicans winning this election....we need a change.

none of the other candidates -- including pete domenici jr -- stand a chance against diane denish. it took the democrats no time at all in finding some very damaging examples of cases he has defended -- like the drunk nurse in albuquerque who was blamed for killing a 5-year old boy she treated while intoxicated. contrast that with susana martinez's record in cases like baby brianna. everyone has a right to a lawyer, but voters have a right to disagree with someone who chooses to make money defending people like that.

pete jr was very outspoken about contracts to political supporters in his speech, but everyone knows he made millions off of federal government contracts when his dad was the head of the budget committee....and dept of energy contracts when his dad was chair of the energy committee....regardless of whether there was hanky-panky, that's going to be very damaging to his campaign and he will lose all credibility on the issue of ethics.

i hope martinez starts raising more money....but she is doing well for a primary. i just wish republicans could be smart enough to recognize their best chance and not form a circular firing squad.

I've got the '90s on my mind as I watch my Cowboys struggle. If people say 2010 is alot like 1994 then lets think about the kind of person that led us to victory back then against a well known Democrat and that was a businessman named Gary Johnson. The only governor candidate in this race that does not have business experience or smarts is Susana Martinez. I didn't see her at the Tea Party event yesterday.....probably not friendly territory for her since she supported a tax increase not too long ago.

If it is true what jeffnm says that it only took $400,000 for Johnson to win in '94 then it probably had something to do with him being from Albuquerque where he was very well known. No one knows Martinez except in Cruces so you can betcha it will take her a lot more money to win the nomination than any other candidate out there.

EQMuonoz is right about the party eating each other alive. We got a good bench but they are all running against each other instead of using what they've got to help the state when it needs them the most. I like your ideas EQ!

Not supporting Pete Jr since he's announcing during the NFL playoffs and the Cowboys game!

jeffnm don't bee so defensive. You apparently have access to information that I don't have or that I don't have time to go and get. I don't think it's good for republicans to sling mud at others and what you said about Weh makes it sound like he's a criminal and I don't think anyone would agree with you. Lots of businesses do business with the government but that doesn't make them criminals for doing it. You are obviously pro Martinez for governor and thats your prerogative. Just like its my prerogative to be pro Martinez for AG.

All I'm saying is she has not proved that she can raise the money to win. I'm just eyballing her number but it looks like $60 grand came of her new money came from out of state and that means she raised less from in state than the previous quarter. That is not good and it's worse when you combine it what the lady from Las Cruces just said about her not sounding "authentic" talking about the economy. When you don't have the background or education on issues like business it's hard to pull it off and people see thru that. I hate to see someone that could do good for the state fail because the only thing they are satisfied with is being governor. That goes for all the candidates and its going to get worse when Pete Domenici Jr gets in the race.

Why do these people want to eat each other alive when we can try to win all these races? A republican gov can't do the job all by themselves. We need a team!!! If we don't have one it will be like the Johonson years when all anyone did was fight. I came here to live in 1999 and there has been no progress and that is what will happen if we don't get it together.

OK EQMunoz, let's look at recent races. The biggest congressional fundraiser in a recent open GOP primary was Ed Tinsley. He raised $300,000 by the end of 2007. Darren White raised $200,000 by the end of 2007 without a serious primary challenger. Susana Martinez says she's raised $300,000.

Saying Weh should be Governor is a joke. I have known him very well for years and can't believe he's being taken seriously. If he makes it to the general election, it will be a first round knockout.

How can Weh criticize Denish, or the Democrats for giving contracts to political friends when his company received over $200 million from the department of defense -- most coming after he served as a Bush chairman? Gonzales already attacked him for that last week.

Doug Turner is a smart guy, but he raised a grand total of $12,000 in his first report. I like Janice Arnold-Jones on the sunshine issues, but she only raised $30,000 in the last quarter. So....

My husband and I were at a speech Mrs. Martinez gave here in Las Cruces on Tuesday night. I think now that I read what you all are saying about her running for AG, it makes much more sense. In her remarks, she did not sound authentic at all when talking about the economy and the issues that industries like housing and construction are facing. So jivaro99, while fighting corruption is really important, so is making sure that we have a plan to get out of this economic mess. I want someone who can speak our language of business, not someone who just repeats basic economy points that you can get from watching TV or by copying other people's remarks.

I'm not the only person that felt this way. Don't get me wrong, I like her, but she's more suited for continuing her law enforcement career. I don't like Denish because of her Richardson connections but she does sound smarter than Martinez on the economy. I have to hand her that.

Trivia Question. What do you get when you cross Allen Weh's right wing insanity + Susana Martinez's laughable campaign + Pete Domenici Jr's lack of charisma/record/anything + Republican Party infighting? Answer: a repeat of 2008 and a Diane Denish inaugural ball.

EQMunoz I think you are getting the needs all wrong. The largest need in this government to date is corruption. There are plenty of people to advise on the smaller targets for Martinez. I think she would be just what this state needs. She has the background and knows the law. It would be a boon to the state to have her as Governor.
Would you have Weh, or anyone else buy the seat of Governor? If so, why don't we change the rules to say that the Governorship is up for bids and who will bid the most? This of course would be ludicrous and never benefit the people, so it will not happen, thank God.
Keep hitting Martinez if you feel you have to, but don't count her out. She is a mover and shaker and she will come on strong when it is needed. Bad vibes from all that find it necessary is just sour apples. She will be the next Governor of the state.

jeffnm --- sounds like you're one of the operatives ready with stats to back up your candidate (Martinez) so you can protect your spin. This is 2010 people. Lots has changed and the role of money has only increased dramatically. So who cares what happened 8 years ago. The fact you bring up numbers from 16 years ago is laughable.

Now, back to the 21st century. All Martinez seems to show with her report is that she'd be a good AG candidate, but not governor. Since her campaign is all about corruption this and corruption that, then she should be a fantastic AG. To beat King you need at least $600,000 which jeffnm said she would raise at this pace. So there!

So since our party cannot figure out how to behave like adults and put their egos aside for the good of the party, maybe this is how the ballot should look:

Governor = Weh, since he has the money and has proven he can run a big business, that's what state government is, right?
Lt. Governor = Sanchez or Turner (doesn't matter who since they both want bigger offices eventually and they get the name recognition)
Secretary of State = Janice Arnold Jones since she is a techie and the big problems there are technical, right?
AG = Susana Martinez, so she can fight corruption (like paying out of state counsel that has also donated to King's campaign)

At least the ticket would be balanced geographically and ethnically.

And no Pete Jr. should not run!!!! Terrible public speaker who's only claim to fame is his name.

These comments either expose incredible ignorance, or wishful thinking...or both.

In the last competitive Republican primary for Governor, none of the candidates spent more than $1 million. John Sanchez even gave his campaign over $200,000 of his own money and counting that, he still only spent a total of $700,000....Walter Bradley didn't even raise $500,000.

Johnson won his primary with $400,000.

Martinez has raised $300,000. If she just continued this pace, she would raise over $600,000 for the primary. But anyone with a political IQ over room temperature understands that candidates raise a lot more money as the election draws closer, so she'll probably end up raising $1 million -- the same amount Pearce and Wilson raised in the 2008 primary.

Comparing the fundraising of a general election candidate (Denish) to a primary candidate (Martinez) is silly.

It is not Saturday Night (Live) yet, but...

Susana Martinez. Really? You think the way to show you are a viable candidate for governor is to raise $143,000. Really? You couldn't even raise another $7,000 to make it to an even $150,000? Really? You think anyone will believe that you can raise enough money to actually run for governor. Really? I think you are raising this money to run for something else - because this is no way to show you are for real(ly). Sorry for the snarkiness, but this is just sad.
