Arnold-Jones one-ups Denish on transparency

Republican gubernatorial candidate Janice Arnold-Jones has one-upped Democratic candidate Diane Denish in the battle over who’s being the most transparent about her campaign’s funding.
Arnold-Jones has posted on her Web site information about every campaign contribution she’s received to date – 168 contributions totaling a little more than $53,000.
And the campaign plans to keep the list of contributions current, adding new contributions to the Web site each time one is received.
Right now, the list includes the names of the contributors, the cities they’re from and the amount they gave. By the weekend, Campaign Manager Steve Kush said, the dates of the contributions will be added.
Putting the information online fulfills a campaign pledge Arnold-Jones made to her supporters, Kush said.
“She made the promise, she’s keeping the promise, just like she always has,” he said.
Denish has voluntarily been releasing campaign finance reports – lists of contributions and expenditures – quarterly, though in off-election years it’s only required twice. She plans to voluntarily release another report in the next couple of weeks for the fourth quarter of 2009, and earlier this week accused the GOP candidates of operating “in the dark” for not agreeing to do the same.
The other Republican gubernatorial candidates — Albuquerque business owners Allen Weh and Doug Turner and Doña Ana County District Attorney Susana Martinez – have not responded to my question about whether they would match Denish in releasing a fundraising report this month.
But Arnold-Jones has now upped the ante.
“Posting the names and amount donated by our financial contributors is clearly the most transparent way a candidate can operate,” Arnold-Jones said today in a news release. “Our approach, while voluntary, exceeds what all the other campaigns for governor are doing, including that of Lt. Gov. Denish.”
“I promised a transparent campaign and we are delivering on that promise,” Arnold-Jones said. “It is my sincere hope the other candidates will match our level of transparency.”

Janice follows through with her proclamations. She would make a great Governor.
Ms. Janice Arnold-Jones is the best candidate of the Republican Party for governor. She does not have money of the other candidates but at the same time she has not sold her soul to the lobbyists. Plus she is innovative and open-minded. Maybe she will even attract Democrats.
Keeping Promises
Wedum 59 is evidently not cognizant of the use these early contribution posts have in letting people know where and from whom are the backers of Janice Arnold Jones in her race for governor. It would also go a long way to let people know she and anyone who follows her suit is being honest. Wouldn’t you say that was giving thought to many people about how they will vote? Would you rather have the candidates hide the money that is dropped into their coffers?
When I think about your statement, I wonder how you decide your vote.
This is silly. While the law is the law and represents the minimum requirement of compliance – with the techology of today, it is SIMPLE to post a file daily on a regular web site instead of using the cumbersome Secretary of State web site – itself a bureaucratic disaster. Using the SoS web site is appropriate for the legal compliance but it was DOWN for months as they tried to figure out what they were doing up there – reflective of normal Santa Fe bureaucratic malaise. Look at the slightly larger picture and stop drinking the cool-aid kids … We need someone with some creativity who is an innovator – along with a few other attributes – and not just someone with variations of the same old boring, timeworn ideas. This Arnold-Jones lady is a mover, doing good things with little money and making use of technology. I can see why some folks would try and down play that … but their reasons aren’t in the best of interest of the people of the State.
I do admire Arnold-Jones and she did lead the way in making the legislative process more accessible to all of us. I think it’s a bit of a stretch to say she has “one-upped” Denish. It is just as easy to post the contributions as they come in as to post them quarterly, when you don’t have a lot to post.
