Comments on: VIDEO: First TV ad of gubernatorial race is on the air today

I have known Doug for a number of years, and consider him a good friend. I saw his ad on TV last night during MNF. I went to his website to see how his campaign was progressing, and I followed a link to this blog. I was mildly amused by several of the postings from those who must not be members of the “legion of surrogates.” Since I have never posted before, I guess that makes me a “legionnaire” as well, but I had to sign up and add my biased ospinion. I thought the ad was a pretty good representation of who Doug is: a guy who really seems to enjoy spending time with his wife and kids, who loves living in New Mexico and, in truth, cares about what happens here. How’s that for spin? And one final comment, if my quick check is accurate, I think that all of the candidates currently running for governor are married, so I’m not looking for which candidate I would be attracted to at a grocery store. I know that’s probably not how the previous comment was intended, but it made me laugh, and I had to say something. Thanks for the forum.

Well as I suspected, the spin doctor and his legion of surrogates has arrived to the nmpolitics.net site. Is it any wonder that this post has attracted a whole host of new commentators that are supportive of Turner? I have no dog in this fight, but Mr. Canicas is right…the Turner dog won’t hunt.

Everyone, sorry for the unqualified Karl Rove reference (I am no fan), I was just making a historical reference… And I can’t say I’ve looked beyond this website at the other candidates, I was only trying to politely comment somehow that Turner doesn’t have a commanding voice or presence on video. He might have a fantastic plan and strategy, but as the saying goes, that dog won’t hunt.

wake up jivaro99 – what on earth has susana martinez done for NM and where are her ideas for solving the nm’s problems. come on! Ive checked her web site and it is light on substance on heavy on spin. ok you say shes gonna stop corruption. big deal. anyone would be better than the richardson/denish administration. aside from being a flip flopper – lets not forget that she used to be a democrat – shes been a state employee her whole life. how out of touch is that? You want someone who’s really been a leader, I say take a look at colonel weh. he may not know all the issues but he’s got a history of leadership in tough times and these are tough times. Turner could be good too but need to know more.

Ouch! Mr. Canicas sounds like he’s already got a horse in this race. Ive seen Turner on TV in an interview and he made perfect sense to me – articulate and clear about what he believes. Ive even looked at his website since I first saw this commercial and there is a hell of a lot there to think about – actual solutions rather than the constant attack garbage I know I and so many of my friends are sick and tired of. While I intend to learn more about the other candidates – as should we all – this guy seems like a breath of fresh air. As for Karl Rove, there are many of us who wish we had just turned the TV off when his ads were running rather than just turned down the volume.

I wasn’t inclined to consider this gent before, and am less inclined now. I don’t think I’m superficial about appearance and personal presence, but I thought this candidate’s image was stronger with just his photograph. It’s a slick ad with all kinds of cool images, but in the middle of it all there’s this guy you wouldn’t look at twice in the supermarket…I don’t see the personal characteristics that would make anyone follow him. I’ll leave it at that, and not get into further personal criticisms, but this gent won’t do well on television if he tries to speak to the voters. Karl Rove once said that he crafted campaign commercials that work best with the volume off—Turner should consider that tactic.

What a bunch of meaningless fluff. Does this as mean that he advocates Gary Johnson style of Governorship? If he publicly advocates legalization of pot, he may beat Denish. It would display independence and courage. He mentions running “business” anybody know anything about his business and how his workers feel about him?

Not a bad spot at all! Gives about as good of a bio as you can give in 30 seconds. I actually agree that what we need right now is a governor who has not spent a career as an elected official but someone who is actually in touch with normal people. What do we really know about any of these candidates except that all of them except Turner are politicans already. I say keep an open mind and give this guy a chance.
