District 6 Las Cruces City Councilor Sharon K. Thomas was re-elected today.

Thomas won with 1,444 votes, or 55 percent, to the 1,201 votes, or 45 percent, that went to challenger James W. Harbison. That’s according to unofficial results obtained by NMPolitics.net and includes tallies collected from receipts posted on the doors of all five polling places in the district and early and absentee voting.

Thomas could not be reached for comment, but Harbison confirmed that the race “is over.” He said he’s called Thomas to concede the race but has been unable to reach her.

“The voters have spoken. I don’t understand their vote but I respect their vote, and that’s all I can say,” Harbison said.

  1. This city has lost a good chance to put an honest and intelligent man into the seat of Sharon Thomas. Sharon Thomas is the one who wastes our dollars and wants to narrow Roadrunner to two lanes and put in bike trails for a very few people. She has no thought to the spending of this money to build and maintain an updated and efficient 911 call system or building that would better serve the needs of the community as a whole.

In her estimation it is better to spend the money on building bike paths that only a few will use. I don’t know who has their head buried deeper in the sand Sharon or Ken. What we need is safety, not recreation.
