Mr. Luévano eloquently describes what a lot of freedom loving people have known for a long time.

From my perspective -- personal responsibility of navigating life's highway is at the core of liberty and cannot be legislated.

Trouble is - the majority apparently never did nor do they now really believe in the pleasures and consequences of freedom.

Sadly, the evidence crystal clear -- the majority believe in debt and the promoters of debt obviously could care-less about self-sufficiency. In fact, debt pushers of all stripes are the personified anti-thesis of freedom.

According to various financial news articles there are approximately 300 million Americans, of which about 100 million are taxpayers. When the numbers are examined (about 15 million unemployed, 40+ million who don't pay income taxes, and at least 20 million govt workers) these 100 million taxpayers are supporting an unsustainable burden. Now throw in the totality of private and govt debt and for all practical purposes we are not only a nation of debtors who cannot ever be free, but we are serfs serving the whims of kings, politicians and/or regulatory demi-gods.

As I see it, based upon the spending habits of both private and public sectors the politicians, despite their rhetoric will not stop their intolerable spending (bringing home the bacon) till the bottom can no longer support the insurmountable mountain of debt.

Although this is not a particular rosy picture of our immediate future, perhaps if enough independents make their views known in the next election a new direction might be established.

Well said Mr. Luevano. As an independent, I fully agree with your views. However, it remains to be seen if the politicians are listening, especially the "progressive" ones. Being drunk with power is a bad state of mind in which to govern. Assuming a "mandate" with "political capital" to spend after a 4 or 5 point election win margin is also a dangerous assumption.
