I am going to miss Governor King.

He was a great friend, mentor, and very good for New Mexico. Having had the
opportunity to work for him, I saw clearly and repeatedly how much he
cared about all of New Mexico's families and the health of our land.

He and Alice were the real deal. They were empowering leaders who did
their best to help others succeed. I will miss those warm bear hugs
and kind words. So will thousands of New Mexicans who knew they had a friend and champion in Governor Bruce King.

I'm so glad that Governor King and his wife Alice honored the the Roswell Hispano Chamber of Commerce with their presence at the annual banquet in June 2008. Joe Trujillo, the father of Chaves county commissioner Michael Trujillo, took a photo of Bruce and Alice King with then-congressional candidate Harry Teague, Pauline Mann (one of the first woman Democratic county chairs in New Mexico), Virginia Garcia (past Democratic county chair) and me. I have a copy up on the wall in my office.
