Oh POOR BABIES!

If I or Joe Common Person did as bad a job as the legislators, we'd be FIRED!
If a Manager FRAUDULENTLY reported a "Surplus" based in bogus #'s, they'd be FIRED and IMPRISONED!
(NOT paid to come back and do it AGAIN)

If your Stucco, Concrete, Electrical or other Contractor screwed up the job so bad that he had to come back and do it all over again, WOULD YOU PAY HIM AGAIN? NO! Then WHY do we have to pay these INCOMPETENT FRAUDS to come back and FIX the SCREW-UP? Why should we even pay them for the FIRST job?

WAKE UP NEW MEXICO! YOU are just as IGNORANT and AT FAULT for LETTING THEM!

.I wish uninformed people (or perhaps those with a political agenda) would stop whining about our "poor" legislators. No salary and only a per diem? Right, they are worth no more than that. They have to leave their "day jobs" and traipse to SF, the poor babies! Why would anyone take a job like this with no pay, constant criticism, and leaving their "true" source of support in jeopardy? Some would say a sense of civic duty, a calling to help their fellow citizens, that altruistic compulsion to make the world a better place for all citizens, their children and grandchildren. NOT! They get paid much money under the table, in perks, and in "campaign" money they can use for many purposes. Add that to the prestige and power they have in society to salve their huge egos and you have a perfect storm attracting those who crave such things. Don't cry for these legislators, they are doing much better than the vast majority of citizens and get what they seek. You should cry for the citizens who get people like this to “represent” them, and the inevitable corruption that follows from people with these motivations. They know what to do in a budget crisis, it's just as simple as reading their contribution records.

Excellent suggestions--I think this column should be at the top of the center column, not sidelined.

One observation--the legislators who are on those interim committees do get that per diem, so it's not a total loss for them.
