Richardson is the one who dictated all those limitations to the budget fixes that could be considered in that special session. Any disasters that resulted are his responsibility. He should sign the legislation as written AND take responsibility for it.

The New Mexico system that requires the legislature to go back into session to override a veto is outdated and costly. In the first place he shouldn't be given 20 days to muck around with the bill. Actually, in the VERY first place he shouldn't be allowed to dictate a detailed agenda of a special session, he should only be able to dictate the general purpose for it.

Ouch! Very well written Heath. When it comes to political reporting, the LC Sun News and ABQ Journal should just post www.nmpolitics.net in its paper and encourage everyone to get thier information from this excellent site.

It should be noted that Denish DID happen to cast the tie breaking vote in amendments, if I remember correctly, that cut into pet-project spending by the legislature, and helps keep funding for schools.
Actually, found Heath's article: http://www.nmpolitics.net/index/2009/10/senate-amendment-would-increase-capital-outlay-cuts/

She was at least willing to cut some things, and protect more important entities such as education.

I wish to commend Heath on his writing of the truth of what has happened, but he heeds to include that Denish is the deciding vote in the Senate and should be tied into this along with the Speaker of the House, Mister Lujan and our illustrious Senate Majority leader.

I am in total agreement that the Governor did not do this alone; it has been with the help of the lawmakers who went along with the flow of a popular man of the last eight years. However these same lawmakers are our voices in Santa Fe and should have done their due diligence.

This is just one more reason to sweep the House and Senate clean and start fresh with people who will not bow to the pressure of the Governor or anyone else.

Denish and Lujan have aided and abetted the Governor and now should be ousted to make way for a person who will think of the state and the people, and it isn't Denish. Electing her is like leaving the fox in the henhouse. The question is do the people want to eat chicken or reap feathers for their votes?
