After reading each candidate’s vitae, I was really impressed with the quality and background of each candidate. Not one of them looks like an academic lightweight, but it’s hard to know how they would actually lead the University as President. It’s a shame so much emphasis in that position is on fund raising, because any one of these folks has the background to really improve our academic programs, given the time and opportunity.
My wife, Dr. Pat Jonker, and I taught at the School of Hotel & Restaurant Management at Calpoly, Pomona for three years. It is considered one of the top Hotel & Restaurant Schools in the country. The University has a wide range of outstanding programs including all of Engineering, agricultural, mathematics and many others. Additionally, it has the most beautiful Arabian horses you have ever seen. There are many similarities between NMSU and Calpoly, Pomona and Dr. Ortiz would be an outstanding leader at NMSU.
It isw an All-Star line up Dr. J, but the best one for the job would be Michael Ortiz. I know abut him and he would be excellent for the job.
Wow! Now that is an All-Star lineup! You can’t go wrong.
