Harry Teague is rich.

In fact, the Democrat, who represents southern New Mexico in the U.S. House, is the 10th richest member of Congress, according to rankings released today by the Washington, D.C. publication Roll Call.

Teague, an oilman from Hobbs, has a net worth of $40.63 million, according to the Roll call article.

The news organization compiled the rankings based on disclosure forms filed by members of the House and Senate. The wealthiest member is Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., who has a net worth of $167.55 million. Eight of the 10 richest members are Democrats.

There are 28 Democrats and 22 Republicans on the list of the 50 richest, and 11 are freshmen members. No others from New Mexico are in the top 50.

As a candidate last year, Teague listed his company, Teaco Energy Services, as having a value of between $5 million and $25 million. Such a range is all that’s required to be reported. But this year, on his congressional disclosure form, Teague went beyond what’s required and “helpfully” gave exact values for all his assets, the article states. He reported the oil company’s value as being $39,630,537.

Teague has been willing to use his personal wealth to get elected. He spent almost $1.5 million of his own money last year on the primary and general races.

Teague may be the richest man in the Congress, but that does not make him the man for the Congressional seat. He has proven to be a man who can be led by the Party Line and has no interest in what his constituency wants or needs.

There are many rich people in this world that have no idea how to serve the public. Look at the sitting President of the United States. Need I say more? The continuation of what is happening to our country now can and will have disastrous effects.

Electing someone to Congress or any other office just because his/her looks, riches, a world traveler or a clotheshorse is a poor way to choose a candidate. I would rather have someone who has knowledge, integrity and truth on their side than the above. Let us not be led to the slaughter by what has gone before, by repeating history, rather let us learn from history and not repeat it.

  2. Well you see, you don’t need an education to be a multi-millionaire. But marrying rich ladies works too, like with Kerry.
