I thought it might be interesting to take a look at the top 20 salaries at New Mexico State University. With the exception of Las Cruces Public Schools Superintendent Sonia Diaz, the 20 highest-paid public employees in

Those in NMSU’s ivory towers have a serious case of “Emperor’s New Clothesitis”. Whatever Michael Martin come up with happens without regard for consequences. He was certainly not the best person for the position he now holds. He is an elitist who is fixated on molding NMSU, New Mexico’s land grant AGRICULTURAL university, into some sort of liberal arts campus on which everyone bows to him and agricultural takes a back seat. His “reforms” have caused tenured faculty to leave in droves; cost a small fortune (check costs of his changing the logo and taking Pistol Pete’s pistols away, just to mention two examples); put an unfair and uncompensated burden on the Extension and agricultural center personnel; and were probably the greatest reason the “pee-ons” unionized. My question is: “WHY HAVEN’T THE REGENTS AND ALUMS REVOLTED AND REMOVED THIS DESPOT?”
Heath-
Considering this is southern new mexico, and the average college grad can’t find a job…
I would say your doing a great service posting this information.
The people on this list should be ashamed of what they make, considering the fact they make more money by not paying their support staff what they are worth.
The average reader would not realize that travel is also not included in this range… the president gets a free house to live in and a car….
They do not pay for their own travel and those meals when they travel, that should be figured in to what they get paid… so when you factor that in its a lot more than what they list.
Actually, the university has been undergoing a process called broadbanding, which allows departments to save money and pass along the work duties to other workers when people retire.
No new job, and less opertunity for young workers.
Effectively, the university is paying these people on your list more by downsizing.
Never mind the pee ons.
These people may work, but what about the little people?
When you are breaking the backs of the support staff that make your job possible, its incredibly sad.
NMSU should hire some of the college grads and pay them bennifits!
What a waste of money. They are losing students. Also, I’d like an account of the fund raising done by the President. They say he’s been so successful. Why gave what and how is it being used?
holy crap. apparently i need to get back into the higher education field and work at getting one of these positions.
—and suddenly i have a goal….other than learning to kayak
Heath, can you also include a list of duties each of these people take on… They deserve what ever they get.
Stop focusing on the amount of money they get and focus on the job they are tasked to do.
These folks are highly educated and talented people; most are in the last half of their careers and have worked incredibly hard to get to the level of responsibility they now have. They have a TON of responsibilities in their respective positions that most of us couldn’t even imagine. We now have in NMSU a truly high quality university, that every year is becoming more and more of a national name to be proud of, while still holding on to its essential character.
Before people start whining about how “rich” and overpaid these people are, please put it into perspective and do a little research on salaries for comparable professionals both in and out of the private sector. You will find that they are, like LCPS Superintendent Diaz, not over paid.
Ask yourself how we continue progressive growth in our community without paying people competitively. Right now, wages and salaries in Las Cruces are GROSSLY suppressed compared to elsewhere. THAT is what we need to correct, not bringing down salaries of our higher paid professionals.
Darn thats lots $$$$$$$ olease all all get take home cars and free Aggie tickets..
